Kitty Hawk Elementary School fifth grade teacher (and Teacher of the Year) Adam Sakers began to sponsor an Angler's Club this year. The club meets every other week twice a week. "On Monday, we research fish species and on Wednesday, we meet at a designated location to fish," describes Sakers, who is also an avid surfer. "We have roughly 15 students and it has been a huge success - we even have t-shirts! Many parents and actually a former student has been involved in helping." Club members use an outline to guide their research with such questions as - other names for the fish; the season(s) the fish is most active, types of baits that are most successful, NC regulations regarding length and limit with respect to the fish, and what types of conditions are conducive to catching the fish.
